Lottacoins Island Walkthrough - Mario and Luigi: Brothership Guide - IGN (2025)

After Princess Peach and Technikki join the crew on Shipshape Island, Peach and Luigi volunteer to allow Snaptors to abduct them, and the character you select as the decoy is snatched and taken to Lottacoins Island. Regardless of whether Peach or Luigi is acting as the decoy, your infiltration mission on Lottacoins Island is mostly unchanged, except that Mario must fight through most of the island solo if Luigi is chosen.

In this Mario and Luigi: Brothership walkthrough, you'll receive detailed instructions to help you complete all the Main Story missions on Lottacoins Island and learn the four-digit passcodes needed to advance.

Big-City Island

Upon landing on Lottacoins Island, you'll receive a video transmission from your selected undercover operative, and they'll report that they're in the largest building on the island. Head north toward the nearby fountain and IDLE will arrive to offer their support in locating either Princess Peach or Luigi.

Once they split up and fan out, thoroughly explore the opening area to collect loot and Sprite Bulbs, then enter the doorway on the left side of the island.

Infiltrate Duplex Towers

After entering the building, march up the staircase to your right, then walk through the right doorway to encounter a guard who will block your path forward. Return to the building's lobby and IDLE will craft a plan to distract the guard and allow the Mario Bros to proceed eastward.

IDLE's tactics prove surprisingly effective, so head east across the walkway and you'll be confronted by a pair of new enemies called Spike Zok Troopers. Like the Guardarms you encountered on Rumbla Island, Spike Zok Troopers change position to use their swords defensively. When their swords are pointed toward the sky, only Hammer Attacks will be effective. To learn about the various attacks used by Spike Zok Troopers, read the table below:

Spike Zok Troopers Attacks
AttackDescriptionHow to Counter
1Trooper jumps back and forth in front of one of the Mario Bros before attacking with its sword.Hold A for Mario and B for Luigi to prepare Hammer Counters. Wait for the Trooper's sword to glint, then release the corresponding button to hit the Trooper before it hits you.
2Trooper runs toward one of the Mario Bros with either its sword facing forward or pointing toward the sky. When the Trooper's sword is forward, time their movement and leap on their head to perform a Jump Counter. If their sword points toward the sky, this move cannot be countered so hop over the enemy to avoid damage.

Lobby Passcode Solution

After defeating the squad of Spike Zok Troopers, approach the radio on the table near the eastern wall, then interact with the radio. As a video transmission comes through, a Spike Zok Trooper will give you a hint to help you open the blocked path in the lobby. Through the transmission you'll learn that:

  • The digit second from the left is 3.
  • The digit on the far right is 7.

With two of the four passcode digits now determined, return to the lobby and talk to the local with a thought bubble above his head. The local will mention that they left a sheet of paper on the work table in the communication room and that it has part of a secret code on it.

Head back up the steps, trek east to revisit the communication room, and you should notice an item shimmering on the floor near the L-shaped desk. Pick up the item, and you'll acquire an illustration that will help you determine the third digit in the passcode.

The illustration asks you to count all the square cubbies and pencil holders, before adding them together. This will indicate that the third digit is 8.

To determine the final digit in the passcode, return to the lobby and speak to the employee on the far left end of the window to get more intel. Despite saying you can't go upstairs, the employee will still provide great customer service and hand you another illustration. The drawing indicates that the first digit can be determined by counting the amount of potted plants on tables in the lobby. This means that the final digit is 5.

With all the digits now identified, the four-digit lobby passcode is 5387.

To enter the code, walk through the doorway on the northeastern end of the lobby to find five floating blocks. Jump underneath the blocks to enter 5387, then jump under the checkbox to submit the passcode and the gate leading to the upper levels will open.

Return to the lobby, convince the guard to let you through, and he'll tell you to investigate the connecting hall on 4F. With that extra intel, walk up the staircase to reach 3F and prepare to take on Snaptors and Helmet Zok Troopers.

As their name implies, Helmet Zok Troopers wear protective helmets that can be knocked off to expose their heads. Below, you'll find a list of the attacks you can expect from Helmet Zok Troopers:

Helmet Zok Troopers
AttacksDescriptionHow to Counter
1Troopers form two lines, one in front of each Mario Bro, then charge at them. The Mario Bros can be targeted in quick succession, but never at once.Wait for the Troopers to approach and press A or B to jump off their heads. This is a great way to knock off Trooper helmets without wasting a turn.
2Troopers form a single line, then charge. The Troopers can charge at either Bro and may jump onto or run straight through their target.Wait for the Troopers to face a Mario Bro, then hold their corresponding button to prepare a Hammer Counters. Troopers without helmets will jump, while Troopers with helmets run right at you.

After your first encounter with the Helmet Zok Troopers, head west and walk up the stairs to reach floor 4F.

Next, walk south, enter the door on your right and you'll find a gap in the walkway. If you chose Peach as the decoy, use UFO Spin to fly across the gap, and you'll discover that you need a second four-digit code to continue. But if you sent Luigi as the decoy, you will change perspectives and control the green-capped plumber.

While controlling Luigi, leap off the blue crates to reach the upper level, and break the wooden boxes on your right to reveal a hidden passage. Enter the newly discovered path and follow the 10-Coins to head west, then break the final two wooden crates to escape. Walk through the door to head toward Mario and the Mario Bros will reunite on floor 3F.

Prison Door Passcode Solution

With the Bros reunited, return to the prison, approach the gate, and an employee will hand you a stack of illustrations to help you determine the door code. If you decipher each of the drawings you'll learn that the passcode needed to free the prisoners is 6529.

  • To determine the first digit in the code, access the security cameras on either side of the room and count the number of visible triangles. There will be 6 visible triangles.
  • To determine the second digit, head into the hallway and interact with the two trees marked in the drawing to find the solution of 5.
  • The third digit can be found using the numbers on the walkway columns on floor 3F to solve the equation. This will give you the solution of 2.
  • Lastly, the final digit can be solved by returning to floor 3F and accessing the camera in the bottom left corner of the office to determine the digit is 9.

Enter the passcode using the Mario Bro indicated by the colored blocks, then hit the checkbox to free the prisoners. Though the prisoners are freed for an instant, Troopers will arrive and block the exit.

After exploring the prison cell area to collect loot and coins, interact with the red tube in the left wall to unlock your newest Bro Move, Bro Ball. Tilt the right joystick down and Mario and Luigi will combine to form a ball. In your ball form, roll through the tube and follow the set path to return to the lobby area.

Next, take the long way back to the fourth floor, use UFO Spin to fly across the gap, and defeat the guards to free the prisoners once and for all. With the prisoners now free, return to floor 1F and talk to Princess Peach to get a debrief on everything she's learned. IDLE will interrupt your conversation to inform the adults that Ellow has been kidnapped by the Extension Corps and taken to the roof.

Ellow SOS

To get to the roof, head back up to floor 4F, but instead of heading toward the prison cell use Bro Ball to roll through the pipe lodge in the left wall. Follow the preset path and you'll enter a room housing a complex tube system.

When you first enter the tube room your path to the roof is blocked, so the Mario Bros will need to use UFO Spin to turn the cogs and forge a path forward. To turn the pieces and create a path, use UFO Spin on both cogs twice. If you lost count of your spins, use the image above to learn what the tubes should look like before you roll through.

When the pieces are in place, roll up the ramp on the northern end of the maze to reach the roof. Once on the roof, hit the Warp Pipe block to create a fast travel point, then hit the Recovery Block to prepare for the impending boss battle.

Once prepared, head west to spot Ellow being terrorized by the Extension Corps. After the cutscene, the villains will force you to fight their oversized pet, Mega Snaptor.

Mega Snaptor Boss Battle

Despite his obvious size difference, Mega Snaptor is not unlike normal Snaptors, and he even shares several moves with his average-sized counterparts. Before getting into Mega Snaptor's move set, here's some things you should know:

  • Mega Snaptor is immune to standard Hammer Attacks.
  • Mega Snaptor is also immune to Luigi's Green Shell Bro Attack.
  • If you have it unlocked and charged, equip the Anti-Flying Specialist Battle Plug to guarantee that Jump Attacks deal critical damage with each hit.

With that out of the way, here's a breakdown of the moves you can expect from Mega Snaptor and info on how to counter each one:

Mega Snaptor Attacks
AttackDescriptionHow to Counter
1Mega Snaptor cocks its neck back before launching a beak attack at one of the Mario Bros to deal a devastating amount of damage.Because it can be difficult to predict who Mega Snaptor will attack, hold both A and B, then release the correct button as he snaps at you to perform a Hammer Counter.
2Mega Snaptor snatches one of the Mario Bros, then throws several objects at you including springs, stones, and your fellow Bro.This attack cannot be countered but can be dodged by quickly identifying the incoming object. If it's a rock jump over it. If it's a spring allow it to bounce over your head, and if it's your fellow Bro, jump over them to avoid hurting your partner.
3Mega Snaptor flaps its wings to create tornadoes that barrel toward both Mario Bros. This attack also cannot be countered, but you can avoid taking damage by leaping over the tornadoes.
4Mega Snaptor flies in front of a Mario Bro before pecking at them three times.Hold A as Mario and B for Luigi to prepare a Hammer Counter. Just before Mega Snaptor pecks, perform a Hammer Counter three times in a row to send him packing,

As you dwindle Mega Snaptor's health, he'll flap his wings to create tornadoes that fly past the Mario Bros and through the Luigi-branded tubes in the background. This will give Luigi an idea, and during his next turn, hit the Luigi Logic block to kick off a special attack.

Luigi will approach the green tubes, and you'll need to press B at the correct time to connect the three tubes in this conveniently placed contraption. When perfectly executed, spam B to hit Mega Snaptor with a huge water vortex that leaves him vulnerable to critical damage. With Mega Snaptor out for two rounds, this is the perfect time to use your most powerful Bros Attacks to maximize damage.

After vanquishing Mega Snaptor, watch the subsequent cutscene, activate Bro Ball, and enter the orange tube to reach the Lottacoins Island lighthouse. Jump up the lighthouse steps, pull the plug to connect the lighthouse to the Uni-Tree, and congrats you have just completed this mission!
